We’re proud to highlight Denver Urban Garden (DUG), a nonprofit bringing sustainable gardening to communities across Colorado—including right here in Elbert County!
At Independence, the DUG program has flourished over the past 5 years where neighbors grow fresh produce, share recipes and sell homegrown goods at their community farmers market. This year’s season wraps up with a final Independence Farmer’s Market on Saturday, Sept. 27.
In the words of Nessa Mogharreban, Senior Director of Partnerships for DUG, “We’re so honored and humbled to work with developers across Colorado, like Craft Co. and Continuum Partners, to bring urban gardening, sustainable growing practices, and pollinator friendly plants together in a lasting and impactful way for their residents and communities at large.”
With the recent addition of a new community greenhouse, built by Colorado Greenhouse Builders, residents can continue to garden year-round.
